My Pulse Feed

Just a quick heads up letting everyone know, that I have started a new Posterous account dedicated to blog news articles I like or find useful. This is being done through the Pulse app for the iPad. When I read a story I like or find useful, I "Pulse" it and it will pop up on this site: http://atlchris.pulsememe.com

If you use the Pulse app on the iPad, you can add my feed directly in the app. Just search my username or real name when adding a feed.

Dexter, my new favorite show!

OK, I know I am a little late on this one, but after a recommendation from a friend I decided to give Dexter, a Showtime series, a chance. The first 2 seasons are available on Netflix "Watch Instantly", so I was able to watch it for free instantly. 2 episodes in and I was hooked.

Meet Dexter Morgan. By day he's a blood splatter pattern expert for the Miami Metro police department. But by night - he takes on an entirely different persona: serial killer. But Dexter isn't your average serial killer as he only kills people who fit a very prolific and precise "moral code" taught to him by his late father Harry (he didn't kill Harry, honest), and developed very thoroughly throughout each kill.

In a nut shell, Dexter is about a guy who works for the police department as a forensic expert, but doubles a serial killer who only kills bad guys. It is am excellent show, and I highly recommend it. Like I said, seasons 1 & 2 are available on Netflix "Watch Instantly", season 3 is on DVD, and season 4 will be out soon.

Headed to Mystic!

This summer, I have a ton of trips planned, most of which have a purpose, and are not really vacations. My girlfriend and I decided to do something for ourselves this summer, and take a proper vacation. On August 19th, we are flying up to Mystic, CT. Don't know Mystic, CT? Most people don't, so don't worry. I have never been before, but by what I have heard, it is a pretty amazing place. Mystic is sometimes referred to as the perfect New England vacation spot. It is a what you are thinking of when you think "Harbor Town". Mystic is the type of place they would film a movie that is suppose to take place in the perfect little "Harbor Town".

Some people are wondering why we choose Mystic? Neither I nor Megan have ever been to Mystic before. Going there for a vacation was Megan's idea and it was just a random pick. We are both very quiet and simple people. Our idea of a vacation is a place where we can go that has some beautiful scenery, has stuff todo, and is quiet. Megan and I are not the typical 20 somethings, we don't want to goto the beach and cook in the sun for 5 days. We don't want to drink ourselves stupid every night. We want somewhere comfortable and quiet with simple things todo. Mystic seemed like a perfect destination. Also, Megan's sister and brother-in-law live an hour away, so we will meet up with them for a night.

While we are in CT, we are also going to rent a car and drive around to different area's of New England. We have plans to visit New Haven, Hartford, and Storrs (Home of the University of CT.) I plan to take a ton of photos while I am there, and will post them here and on my flickr account when I get back. Taking photos is one of my favorite things todo on vacation. I like to catalog all of the places I have been through a series of artistic photos. While I don't consider myself to be a photographer, I do know my way around a DSLR.

Have you ever heard of Mystic? What is your idea of a great vacation?

Updates and Productivity

Well, it has been a while since i have been active on this blog, and it is for good reasons. As most of you know, about a year ago, I started a web design firm called Collective Core. In the past few months, things have really started to take off. I currently have 3 active client projects that are taking up all of my free. Between running a business, working on client projects, networking, and having someone of a social life, I have not been able to keep my blogs up to date. Which I hate, because I really do enjoy blogging. Don't worry though, I am not turning away from the blogs!

I have started to implement a new time management/task managing system in my life. Hopefully after I get use to this new method of managing my time, it will allow me to stay on top of and in control of all the craziness in my life. This new system involves a few software based and web based tools, and a whole lot of self control.

- Things (Mac To-Do Application) - Things is amazing, I have been using it on and off for a few months now and only recently did I really start to dive into the deep end with it. I now manage all of my to-do's exclusively in Things. Everything from bill due dates, to bill paying time blocks, to client projects, my dog's monthly flea medicine, ... When used in conjunction with the iPhone/iPad application, you can't go wrong with Things. You can find out more about it here: http://culturedcode.com/things/

- BusyCal (Mac Calendar Application) - BusyCal is known across the web as iCal on steroids, and that is exactly what it is. It looks a feels just like iCal, but offers a higher level of customization and options regarding calendar events and reminders, plus it offers up little weather widgets directly on your calendar, which is kind of handy. You can also share your calendar over LAN, Online (Google Calendar Sync), via the iPhone, ... You can find out more about it here: http://busymac.com/

-Delicious (Web Based Application) - One of my self battles is distractions, I tend to get distracted very easily especially with blog articles and news store. What I have started doing, is when I come across an article or news store I want to read or comments on, I will save it to Delicious and return to it when I have downtime, which is normally before bed on my iPhone. This alone has increased my productivity because I don't get side tracked during the day when I should be working. You can find out more and view my Delicious feed here: http://delicious.com/ATLChris

- Isolator (Mac Application) - Isolator is one of those super simple applications that changed the way I worked the moment I started using it. What it does, is simply turn the lights down on everything on your screen except the current application. This this great for when I am coding, and I don't want to see my twitter feed in the background, or my RSS feed. It simple blacks out every thing on screen with the exception of the current active windows. You can even choose to black out the dock if you want. Learn more about it here: http://willmore.eu/software/isolator/

So, I leave you with this question, How do you manage your time/to-do's/tasks?
